Christa mcauliffe space center. Space shuttle orbiter challenger shortly after its launch from cape canaveral florida on january 28 1986 which claimed the lives of seven astronauts including christa mcauliffe who had won a national screening to become the first teacher in space. The mcauliffe shepard discovery center is a museum memorial to alan shepard and christa mcauliffe. In addition the christa corrigan mcauliffe center at framingham state college was established to carry on her legacy and support the advancement of educational practices throughout the region.
Thirty years after the concord high school class of 86 watched social studies teacher christa mcauliffe and six astronauts perish when the space shuttle challenger exploded on. The simulators create an immersive environment where students can envision themselves in roles involving leadership engineering science and more while encountering curriculum based challenges. The mcauliffe shepard discovery center in concord and the christa corrigan mcauliffe center for education and teaching excellence at framingham state university are named in her memory as are the asteroid 3352 mcauliffe the crater mcauliffe on the moon and a crater on the planet venus which was named mcauliffe by the soviet union.

Since 1990 the space center has been inspiring and influencing the lives of thousands of children teenagers and adults in utah and beyond.
