Interior wall stud spacing. Oc on center spacing the spacing between the center of one stud and the center of the next stud. Remember don t measure the oc from the end of each stud. Wall stud spacing is typically 16 inches on center for all load bearing walls.
In some areas and in some situations it s permissible to use 24 inch spacing for two by four stud walls supporting only a roof above or for two by six walls supporting one story and a roof above. You can also try holding a flashlight against a wall and looking down the wall to see if you can tell where two pieces of drywall meet. Running measurements are and on from start of wall to near side of each stud.
The simple division allows us to count only the studs in the middle of the frame and a single end stud. If you start in a corner and measure out 16 inches and you don t find a stud you should find one at 24 inches. This is called installing.
Standard studs are 16 inches apart measured from the center of one stud to the center of the next stud. Make the mark then put an x on the far side to denote stud placement. Why do we need to add one more stud.
