Space Engineers Merge Block
I am attempting to merge two obejects together made from small ship parts.
Space engineers merge block. The merge block trick did indeed stop working after that update. You re showing the piston at 1 block extension though. The merge block releases from the piston and the other ship but the main ship and the other one are still considered as one ship i e.
I consider the merge block to be a structural connection which is why it snaps to and becomes a single ship until unattached. It s still only 2 1 blocks retracted 3 blocks for the construction model that much never changed. I have it lined up so that it is basically already on the same grid but the merge blocks do not merge.
I can move the whole ship about. Merge blocks set to the off position will release each other and lose their magnetic properties. Use of the merge block is simple if powered the block will glow white.
I m forming ship that uses a piston to drive a merge block to connect to another ship of the same size. Merge block is connected to another powered merge block. When you join ships with merge blocks all blocks that touch along flat surfaces join eachother so if you have something like the basic armour blocks touching at the point of the join they merge periminantly regardless of wheather or not you turn off the merge blocks.
This tutorial will show you how to join together small blocks with large blocks using the small rotor to big rotor stator trick. Yeah you can force a permanent connection of sorts but using a merge block is a cleaner solution that you can reuse multiple times without grinding. The merge blocks get lined up perfectly fine go yellow then nothing.
Merge block is unpowered disengaged and electrically disconnected from any other merge blocks within mating proximity. In addition the controls. Without the merge block you would have to manually add new blocks connecting the small rotor head to the ship and then grind them down when you wanted to use your small ship again.
