Why is there no gravity in space. Space has microgravity which is very weak gravitational force. Each galaxy is held together by strong gravitational forces. Any object that has mass generates gravity and gravity causes every object to pull every other object towards it.
Therefore if there is no air there is no gravity. In space gravitational forces do exist. Because gravity is everywhere in space objects in space are always falling.
Because space is so large and planets are so small by comparison it s actually very hard to hit planets. Astronauts only feel like there is no gravity because they are continuously falling as if there weren t. As they orbit and fall toward earth at the same rate as their spaceship astronauts feel weightless as if there were no gravity.
Orbiting just means that an object falls towards a planet due to gravity and continually misses it. There is no air in space. Space contains massive objects that exert a gravitational force on everything around them.
Imagine you have a piece of string with a ball on the end. You see if there were no gravity in space the astronauts in their space ships would fly off into space and not be able to come back. The second reason that gravity is not so obvious in space is because objects tend to orbit planets instead of hitting them.
It s an unusual feeling to imagine and something unfamiliar for us on earth unless you re a skydiver or an astronaut. Orbiting is what the earth does around the sun along with all of the other planets in our solar system. If you re in free fall you don t feel the gravity because everything around you is falling with you.
